Cerebral autoregulation in pregnancy.

Teelkien works as clinician at the University Medical Center Groningen. She obtained her medical degree (cum laude) and her PhD from the University of Groningen. Her thesis was on the cerebral hemodynamics is normal and complicated pregnancy, using transcranial Doppler to study the regulation of the blood flow in the brain of pregnant women. The clinical work was performed in Houston at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital with prof Belfort, and analyses/interpretations were done in Leicester, with prof Panerai.

While now mainly working at the department of reproductive endocrinology, she retained her interest in the maternal brain, and collaborates with Lina Bergman and Cathy Cluver for PROVE at Tygerberg University Hospital in Cape Town, in which they combine in vitro models, animal models and clinical studies to understand the underlying pathophysiological pathways and possible predictors to cerebral complications in pregnancy and preeclampsia. In Sweden, she works with Lina Bergman, Anna Karin Wikström, Niclas Carlberg and Katja Junus on GO PROVE and UPMOST
