Stefan Botha

PhD student

Biography

My name Stefan Botha and I am a scientist from South Africa. Having recently joined the preeclampsia research team, I am currently studying towards a joint PhD, under the Berlin University Alliance, through the University of Melbourne and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Our focus for this project – we want to identify and investigate novel biomarkers of preeclampsia through the combination of molecular profiling methods and an established laboratory screening pipeline. The data obtained from these investigations will inform our study of the pathogenesis of preeclampsia, as we aim to identify new therapeutic targets for the disease. We hope that our research will shed light on the underlying pathophysiology of preeclampsia with the aim of improving diagnostics and clinical management for the disease.

I am grateful for the great support from my supervisors and research team in Melbourne, Berlin, Sweden and Cape Town – Professor Tu’uhevaha Kaitu’u-Lino, Professor Stephen Tong, Professor Ralf Dechend, Dr. Olivia Nonn, Associate Professor Cathy Cluver and Associate Professor Lina Bergman.
