Niclas Carlström

PhD student

Research: Dynamic cerebral autoregulation and glycocalyx degradation products and their association with organ complications in preeclampsia.

Biography

Niclas did his specialist training in 2002-2010 at Sahlgrenska University Hospital Östra. He attended the Scandinavian Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive care (SSAI) program in obstetric anesthesia 2017-2019. Niclas has been educating, both giving lectures and facilitating learning at medical simulations, on almost every level from medical and nurse students to specialists in anesthesia and intensive care. He is a member of the national Swedish Preeclampsia working group.
Niclas became interested in the importance of the endothelial glycocalyx for the development of trauma coagulopathy in 2011. In 2019, he  started working on a PhD-project with Lina Bergman as his supervisor, investigating dynamic cerebral autoregulation, measured with transcranial Doppler, and glycocalyx degradation products, measured in blood samples, and their association with organ complications in preeclampsia.
