Karl Bergman

Biography

Karl is specialized in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He earned his medical degree from Umeå University in Umeå, Sweden. He completed his specialist training at Falu Hospital, Falun, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg (both in Sweden) and at Tygerberg Hospital, Cape Town (South Africa).

His current clinical focus lies in cardio-obstetrics and adult congenital heart disease (ACHD).

Karl became involved with the PROVE research group in 2018, initiating a project on preeclampsia and pulmonary edema in collaboration with Dr. Lloyd Joubert from the Cardiology Department at Tygerberg Hospital. In 2021, he embarked on his PhD studies at the University of Gothenburg. Two of his four doctoral research projects are based at Tygerberg Hospital, with a focus on cardiac imaging and the biomarker profile of women affected by preeclampsia complicated by pulmonary edema. Additionally, his doctoral work includes epidemiological research, concentrating on the long-term cardiovascular effects of preeclampsia.
