Biography

Anna-Karin is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology since 2001 and is currently working is a
clinical professor in obstetrics and gynecology at the department of Women’s and Children’s
Health at Uppsala University and the University hospital in Uppsala. Anna-Karin defended her
thesis named “Epidemiological and biochemical studies of early and late preeclampsia” in 2007
and the thesis was one of the first to separate preeclampsia into different phenotypes in research.
After the dissertation Anna-Karin had a post-doc position at the unit of clinical epidemiology at the
Karolinska Institutet and she is still affiliated to the unit. Anna-Karin has been the main supervisor
for four and co-supervisor for ten PhD students. She is currently the main supervisor for five PhD
students. Most project are focused on preeclampsia and several methods are used. Anna-Karin
is the head of IMPACT-study, a nationwide Swedish cohort study for prediction of obstetrical
complications in the first trimester and the UpMost-study, a clinical study focusing on a biobank
of preeclampsia and the cerebral impact of the disease. Anna-Karin has collaborations with
several members in the preeclampsia network.
